Support boundary
Readable data depends on the exact model, firmware, and whether the original MakerNotes survived—not only on the logo on the camera. Only selected models write a reliable count into photos. A missing value does not mean the camera is unused. Photo EXIF/MakerNotes from this model normally do not provide a dependable shutter total. We may read ordinary EXIF, but we do not relabel a filename or image number as mechanical actuations. An established USB utility or authorized service inspection is usually required for a precise reading.
Prepare an original file
- Take a new photo with the camera; keep the RAW file when possible.
- Copy it with a card reader, cable or original-file transfer.
- Avoid screenshots, thumbnails, messaging-app compression and edited exports.
If no count appears
- Confirm that the target camera created the file.
- Try the RAW original and check that EXIF and MakerNotes remain intact.
- Check the applicable camera limitations; a missing count does not mean the camera is unused.
