How shutter-count reading works

Learn how Pocket Shutter uses ExifTool to read standard EXIF, maker notes and shutter-related fields with different meanings.

EXIF & MakerNotes

Mechanical shutter count, total shutter count and ImageCount are not interchangeable. Pocket Shutter shows the source field and confidence; ImageCount is a usage clue, not automatic proof of mechanical actuations.

Support boundary

• Confirm that the target camera created the file.
• Try the RAW original and check that EXIF and MakerNotes remain intact.
• Review the model limitation below; a missing count does not mean the camera is unused.
