Support boundary

Readable data depends on the exact model, firmware, and whether the original MakerNotes survived—not only on the logo on the camera. Many models store a readable ShutterCount, provided the file is camera-original. Mechanical shutter count, total shutter count and ImageCount are not interchangeable. Pocket Shutter shows the source field and confidence; ImageCount is a usage clue, not automatic proof of mechanical actuations.

Prepare an original file

  • Take a new photo with the camera; keep the RAW file when possible.
  • Copy it with a card reader, cable or original-file transfer.
  • Avoid screenshots, thumbnails, messaging-app compression and edited exports.

If no count appears

  • Confirm that the target camera created the file.
  • Try the RAW original and check that EXIF and MakerNotes remain intact.
  • Check the applicable camera limitations; a missing count does not mean the camera is unused.
